Kou Xiaowei contended that he was lucky,because every step of his life happened to coincide with the rhythm of the times.

Between 1984 and 1997,Kou Xiaowei worked as management of publishing through the traditional paper-based media.It was a golden age of China's publishing industry after the reform and opening-up policy was introduced.

In 1997,he was transferred from the position of the Deputy Director of the Book Publication Department to become the Deputy Director of the Audio and Video Deparment within the Press and Publication Administration of China,managing electronic and Internet publishing. Back then,information service through Internet was in its infancy.Kou Xiaowei started to deal with the first generation of the Internet tycoons since then.

It is also since then till his departure from the public sector administrator role,he witnessed all stages of development of China's Internet industry until it became one of the world biggest internet networks.He said that the Internet has changed his mindset,as well as his life.

At the end of 2011,he made the transition from an administrator to an entrepreneur.After careful consideration, planning and preparation,he set up Youge Capital in 2012,to provide investment advise and services to innovators and entrepreneurs. At the end of 2013 and ahead of the trend of venture creation and innovation in the Internet sector,he founded China's first incubators:Madzone,focusing on providing a full range of services for the global mobile Internet innovators and entrepreneurs.

Kou Xiaowei was very aware of his strengths and weaknesses.Setting up Madzone is aimed to take the advantages of the strength and make up for the weaknesses.In the Mobile Internet era, while gaining funding is important for innovative entrepreneurs,gaining resources is equally if not more important.To provide high quality services to innovators and entrepreneurs,Madzone needs to integration of Internet resources,especially those related to the market.To make Madzone a platform that incorporates the functions of incubation,investment and promotion,it is pivotal to integrate good industrial resources,investment resources and market resources.Kou Xiaowei repeatedly stressed his investment philosophy:providing funding is not enough.Be sure to provide the industrial resources and market resources as well. We want to be a collaborator, who might be the best investor. And this is also the way to get a better return on investment.

Kou Xiaowei hope to make Madzone China's most dynamic and long-lived innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem of the mobile Internet industry, and to become the most prestigious brand of innovator and entrepreneur incubator in China.

May be it is his peculiarity that has become the making of the Emperor as a unique and stylist boutique hotel.

Liu Shaojun is building an O2O e-commerce platform,which will convert the Emperor boutique hotel into a place of experiences.“You can only change the hotel industry if you are an outsider.What the Emperor intends to do is to create a hotel by breaking the traditions of a hotel.”Liu Shaojun acclaims.

Banyan Capital:A Model of VC2.0

In in past couple of years,VC fund in the US has witnessed frequent personnel changes.A number of wellknown and star VCs have moved out institutions and set up independent fund.They are the investors of a VC2.0 era.

At the end of September 2013,Gao Xiang,Yue Bin and Zhang Zhen resigned from IDG to establish Banyan Capital.With its experienced senior GP and a strong lineup of LPs, Banyan Capital deserved to be called the model of VC2.0.

In Zhang Zhen’s view, the trunk and aerial roots of a banyan resemble the relationship between the fund and projects,as well as that of fund and LPs.

As a new fund,Banyan Capital has invested in more than 30 projects,“In the future we will invest in more projects and our LPs will increase as well, which is in consistent with our name Banyan.”
