Benin Digital Development

Beninese Government plans to convert the country into “a platform of digital services for West Africa by 2021,” said Rafiatou Monrou, Benin’s Minister of Digital Economy and Communication in Cotonou on May 17.

She believes the theme of Big Data for Big Impact of the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day celebration held in Cotonou that day is well in line with the vision of Benin’s President Patrice Talon for the digital economy sector.

“The sectoral strategy is intended to transform Benin into a platform of digital services, speed up growth and social inclusion by 2021,” Monrou said.

She underscored this is to ensure that affordable prices and access to Internet is implemented through a systematic and stepwise establishment of national parks, that is likely to enable over 3,000 km of fiber optics to be installed by 2019.

According to Monrou, the project is in process of finalization and its implementation is a landmark achievement in the sector of the digital economy. CA
