FOCAC Beijing Summit: Fostering a Community of a Shared Future

The 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) was held this month. Focusing on the Belt and Road Initiative, the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the African Union’s Agenda 2063, as well as the development strategies of African countries, it is another framework within which China and Africa work together to forge a community of a shared future.

The two sides have a lot in common. They both possess splendid civilizations and struggled for independence for a very long time, and after independence was achieved, they became allies and supporters of each other.

For nine years in a row, China has been Africa’s biggest trading partner. In the new century, within the FOCAC framework, the two sides cooperate in the field of politics, economy, culture, environmental protection, peace and security, and international affairs, setting an example for South-South cooperation.
