National Book-Reading Campaign

On April 23, 2016, China National Philatelic Corporation issued a first-day cover carrying a set of one special stamp titled “National Book-Reading Campaign” with a face value of 1.20 yuan. The picture on the stamp is titled “National Book-Reading Campaign.”

April 23 is the World Book Day, and 2016 marks the 10th anniversary of the “national book-reading campaign” jointly proposed and launched by the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of China, etc. Over the last decade, the campaign has gone deeper and has become increasingly influential. As a result, various kinds of reading activities have been carried out, more and more Chinese people have become readers, and reading has gradually become a social trend. This set of stamp involves unique printing techniques. The left cover of the book bears the microprint of part of the text from the Three Character Classic surrounding the staircase. The stamp bears “National Book-Reading Campaign” in Braille. Under ultraviolet light, lamplight can be seen from the open window in darkness. On format B of the stamp is printed the two-dimensional barcode of the National Digital Library of China, the National Library of China.
